The company's shares have dropped 16% this year, mainly on concerns that new GLP-1 diabetes drugs such as Novo Nordisk's Ozempic and Eli Lilly's Mounjaro could eat into the sales of its continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) devices. Hurdles in health insurance reimbursement and pricing could, however, keep market growth for GLP-1 drugs limited to a small number of patients in the near term, Abbott CEO Robert Ford said on Wednesday. Third-quarter sales of FreeStyle Libre, Abbott's CGM device used by diabetes patients, jumped 30.5% to $1.4 billion, lifting Abbott's shares 3% in morning trade. The numbers helped Abbott's medical device sales that stood at $4.25 billion, beating analysts' estimates of $4.16 billion, according to LSEG data.

The company said Thaysen, 48, who has been part of the analytical instruments division leadership at Agilent since 2018, would take the helm effective Sept. 25. Thaysen “checks all the boxes” required for the CEO role with his expertise in medical tools industry and understanding of Illumina’s customer base, said Evercore analyst Vijay Kumar. Aug 28 (Reuters) - Danaher Corp (DHR.N) said on Monday it would buy smaller rival Abcam Plc in an all-cash deal valued at $5.7 billion including debt, as the medical tools supplier expands its services to capture bigger contracts. The deal will help Danaher cushion the hit from sluggish demand for its products such as antibodies and sample preparation equipment from smaller biotech companies that are grappling with a funding crunch. Danaher, one of the world's largest suppliers of medical tools, has already cut its annual sales growth forecast multiple times this year. "This is a nice tuck in deal for Danaher that checks all the boxes. Reuters reported on Friday that Danaher was in the lead to acquire Abcam.

The company, Marion Biotech, bought the ingredient — propylene glycol (PG) — from trader Maya Chemtech India, as reported by Reuters. "Marion bought commercial-grade propylene glycol," said a second source, an investigator, who declined to be named while the inquiry is ongoing. International standards allow only trace amounts of EG and DEG in pharmaceutical-grade propylene glycol. The toxins were found in cough syrups exported to Gambia by the other Indian company, Maiden Pharmaceuticals. India made it mandatory for companies to have their cough syrups tested before export from June.

Another 19 foreign nationals have been rescued by authorities, local police said on Twitter, adding that the bodies of the two deceased skiers have been shifted to a hospital.
